Requesting TBS Time

Nights labelled "TBS" in telescope schedules are "to be scheduled" and are available to observers via a formal request. The Telescope Allocation Committee may also recommend observers whose original proposals could not be fully accommodated. Requests must be received 21 days in advance.

The Operations Manager keeps a file of applications of persons wanting extra observing time during each trimester. Multiple requests for specfic nights are forwarded to the Director of Steward Observatory or his designee for resolution. Revised schedules are announced by the Operations Manager. Observers may request an early decision from Peter Strittmatter, Director of Steward Observatory.

If no requests are received by the above deadline, observers may still request time up to the first night of TBS. However, it may be difficult for Mountain Operations to support the required instrument/telescope configuration on short notice.

To apply for TBS nights on MMT (UA only), Bok, Kuiper, and Mt. Lemmon telescopes, please submit a written request including a brief scientific justification to:
